Manage Remote MySQL Server with Local phpMyAdmin

Edit the phpMyAdmin file:

vi /etc/phpmyadmin/

Add the following to the end of the file:

$cfg['Servers'][$i]['verbose']       = 'Remote Server 1';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['host']          = 'MYSQL.SERVER.IP.ADDRESS';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['port']          = '3306';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['socket']        = '';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['connect_type']  = 'tcp';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['extension']     = 'mysqli';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['compress']      = FALSE;
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_type']     = 'cookie';

Now open your web browser (such as Firefox or Internet Explorer) and point it at your local phpMyAdmin address. If you configured the phpMyAdmin config file correctly, you should see a drop down menu at the login screen, where you can select to connect to the local server or to the remote server. Make sure to allow your IP address on the remote MySQL server.
